We organize in-person science workshops with our local special needs community which are accommodated to their learning styles. We teach them topics like static electricity, how to be healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
Lambert Partnership
We partnered with Lambert High School's special education program to conduct in-person science workshops twice a week with Mrs. Nicoletti and Mr. Nesbitt's classrooms. Workshops we did include balloon hovercrafts, pom-pom catapults, and the class (and the therapy dog Duck's) favorite dry ice bubbles. |

Spookfest
In honor of Halloween, the kids got to make spider themed balloon hovercrafts! We created personalized science kits for each student with all of the materials they would need. Shoutout to Mrs. Vivian from New Heights Academy for letting us host workshops virtually in her classroom. |

Jurassic Park
In our September virtual workshop, the kids learned about dinosaurs by making their own fossil using homemade dough and dinosaur finger puppets. |
|
123 Let's Make Some Beats
At our August virtual workshop, the kids got to learn about sound by making their own xylophone out of cups and a paper plate guitar. |
|
On Cloud 9 Everyone was on cloud 9 during our May virtual workshops! The kids got to learn about the 4 different types of clouds. We ended our workshop with a shaving foam model to demonstrate how rain forms. |
|
Static Electricity Butterfly
Our second series of virtual workshops was a success! The kids made their butterflies "fly" with the power of static electricity. |
|
Do You Hear a Chicken?
Due to COVID-19, we held virtual workshops in April, and our first virtual workshop was a success. The kids were able to make chicken sounds from a cup using simple household materials and learned how sound was created. |
|
To Infinity and Beyond!
Our February workshop was "out of this world"! The kids got to learn about the wonder of space, paint the planets, and create the phases of the moon with Oreos. |
|
Fast and Curious
Our January workshop was a truckload of fun! The kids got to learn about different types of vehicles and participate in several different stations, including making their own rocket. A huge shoutout to SFHS FBLA for making our workshop even more enjoyable with your buyers and sellers activity. |
|
A Messy Christmas
It can be said with no doubt that our December workshop was holly and jolly! We kicked off the workshop with a fun lesson on magnets and then started our stations including making fake snow and a balloon sled race. We ended the workshop with a delicious snowman treat :) |
|
Bubbling Up
In our November workshop, the kids got to learn about the wonders of density. First, we did a soda can sinking demonstration, in which everyone had to guess which sodas would float and which would sink, followed by a 4 layer density activity. We concluded the workshop with some bubbly, and very bright, DIY lava lamps. |
|
Spookfest
Our October workshop was a "spooktacular" success! We first did a small lesson on solids, liquids, and gases and followed up with hands-on Halloween related stations, such as exploding cauldrons, DIY Halloween catapults, and magic self inflating balloons. Our highlight was dry ice bubbles which even the parents were excited to touch :) |
|
The Five Senses
In thsi workshop, we explored the 5 different senses with various hands-on stations for each including making a cup telephone to test with a partner, a DIY perfume station, colored bubbles, and more. This was also our first workshop with volunteers, and they were awesome! |
|
Zapped!
In this workshop, the kids got to learn about the wonders of static electricity! The demonstration in the beginning included a short introductory video followed by a cool trick with a pipe and soda can. Afterwards, the kids got to create their own butterfly craft, which "flew" with the help of static electricity! |
